Many companies established in the eighties were spinoffs from Nixdorf Computer AG. But Paderborn University has also been the source of successful engineers - like the founder of the Janz Company Group, Michael Janz. With interesting and novel ideas, his know-how was used to develop and produce electronic components (including software) for industrial applications.

Janz Elektronik GmbH started in a small barn in Lichtenau/Westfalen, a small town in the vicinity of Paderborn. Several affiliated companies quickly took notice of Janz. One of them - the now-defunct company AEG – placed a large order for the development and production of computing components used for controlling big power plants. Besides the development of customer-specific products, standard products for industrial market have been developed and sold to a wide variety of customers. This was the beginning of our success story.

Several years later, and in a similar manner to the world-known Nixdorf Computer AG, Janz Elektronik GmbH was restructured as Janz Computer AG. Success and large initial orders made it necessary to move to bigger facilities and to hire more employees.

So in 1985 the two principal shareholders Wilhelm and Matthias Stute bought the company and restructured it for better stability in the industrial marketplace. Arnulf Lockmann was hired as a partner in 1987 and since then he has also been made a member of the leadership team, and also a shareholder of Janz Automationssysteme AG, founded in 2001.

With this solid foundation, and at the direction of shareholders, the formal structure of the Janz Group was established. The former Janz Computer AG is now the holding and administration company for the two daughter companies Janz Automationssysteme AG and Janz Informationssysteme AG.

In addition, there are also two subsidiaries in Paderborn and Jena: Stute & Wagner Consulting AG and GODYO AG. In addition to the worldwide list of representatives there are also two Janz companies abroad, in France and in Sweden.

With this successful background, Janz Company Group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2007.
